Electric cooperatives are accountable to their customers who own them. That's why members elect their neighbors to represent them on local co-op boards.

Sixteen distribution cooperatives serve 250,000 North Dakotans through 161,000 meters. These cooperatives are governed by local, consumer boards of directors

Integrity

Electric cooperatives are locally owned businesses with the advantage of belonging to a nationwide alliance that helps deliver the latest technology and state-of-the-art electric service to commercial, industrial and residential customers.

More than 700 Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives in 46 states are delivering energy and energy solutions to millions of customers nationwide.

Electric cooperatives account for 50% of all retail electric sales in North Dakota.

Innovation

To assure a reliable, affordable supply of energy, North Dakota's rural electric cooperatives (Electric cooperatives) built a complete system - from the coal mine to the electric meter - to make sure electricity will always be there at the flip of a switch.

Electric cooperatives have invested nearly $1 billion in distribution facilities. Generation and transmission cooperatives have invested more than $5 billion in North Dakota's energy industry . This represents almost 90% of all coal-based generation in the state.

Commitment to Community

More than 2,300 REC employees are your neighborhood volunteers serving their communities from rural fire departments to economic development councils.

Electric cooperatives also strengthen North Dakota's economy through rural development projects and corporate citizenship.

Electric cooperatives help develop projects in the state by investing millions of dollars economic development loans. Electric cooperatives also pay million of dollars in taxes annually to state and local governments in North Dakota
