NDAREC hosts 77th annual meeting Jan. 21 & 22 in Bismarck
 

The North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NDAREC) will hold its 77th annual meeting Jan. 21 and 22, 2020, at the Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center in Bismarck. The two-day event will feature various sessions, including presentations on the value of the cooperative business model, Rural America, farm stress, and carbon capture and storage. The meeting theme is, “The Power of Us: Cooperative. Community. Connection.”

Carbon Capture, Storage and New Technologies in a Carbon Constrained World. In his keynote presentation, Former U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan will discuss ongoing work to explore the potential for utilizing carbon as a lucrative product through carbon capture and storage. He will also share his view on advancing a common-sense energy policy.

The Power of Possibilities. In his last keynote presentation as president and CEO of National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC), Vern Dosch will present on the time-tested value of the cooperative business model and the role NDAREC played in starting NISC. 

Farm Stress: Rippling Through Rural America. Stress for farmers and ranchers isn't new; it's the sustained level of stress that's different. Becky Kopp-Dunham, a licensed independent clinical social worker and farmer, will speak to this during her presentation, in addition to addressing signs of depression, treatment and the use of telemedicine in rural communities.  

Rural America is the Next Place to Pioneer: Economic Development Through Creative PlacemakingZachary Mannheimer, principal community planner at McClure Engineering, offers an optimistic and practical approach to revitalizing rural communities through the creation of cultural and entrepreneurial amenities, housing and high-speed internet. Attendees will learn how to boost their communities' population and economic development, rebuild blighted properties and find the financial resources to do it. 

The 2020 NDAREC Annual Meeting also includes a business session and an awards ceremony that recognizes cooperative leadership and service.

NDAREC is the statewide trade association for 16 electric distribution cooperatives and five generation and transmission cooperatives operating in North Dakota. The distribution cooperatives provide electricity to more than 250,000 North Dakotans.
