KEM Electric Cooperative director recognized for outstanding contributions
The North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NDAREC) recognized Neil Meidinger, KEM Electric Cooperative director, with the Community Service Award at its 82nd annual meeting Feb. 11. The award recognizes Meidinger’s decades-long commitment to promoting quality-of-life initiatives in McIntosh County.
“As a director of KEM Electric Cooperative, Neil has been a steadfast advocate for cooperative values, always putting members first and working to ensure reliable, affordable service. This commitment to community extends far beyond his cooperative service. Whether he’s putting out a fire or helping plan a community event, he’s always there to help the community,” says NDAREC Executive Vice President and General Manager Josh Kramer.
Meidinger has spearheaded many initiatives that make McIntosh County a great place to live and work. As a county commissioner, he played a pivotal role in the strategic planning of community resources, and he worked hard to ensure everyone had access to essential services. Through his involvement in the McIntosh County Job Development Authority, he helped attract businesses, create jobs and strengthen the local economy. As a member of the Zeeland School Board, he helped implement education programs that will benefit students for generations to come.
His dedication to public safety is equally commendable. A firefighter and emergency medical technician, Meidinger has answered countless calls, providing care and support in some of the most challenging situations. Through the Zeeland Fire Department and First Responders, he has led initiatives to enhance emergency preparedness and response. As a member of the McIntosh County Health District, he has advocated for public health initiatives that have made a significant difference in the community.
“Neil’s dedication, passion and expertise make him an invaluable asset to any organization, project or initiative,” says McIntosh County Auditor Gina Ketterling. “I am confident he will continue to make a significant impact on McIntosh County and positively influence the lives of the people he serves.”
Every year, NDAREC recognizes individuals for their generous contributions to North Dakota’s electric cooperatives and the communities they serve. An eight-member committee of the NDAREC board of directors selects award recipients from nominations submitted by the association’s members, which include 17 electric distribution cooperatives and five generation and transmission cooperatives.
NDAREC is the statewide trade association for 17 electric distribution cooperatives and five generation and transmission cooperatives operating in North Dakota. The distribution cooperatives provide electricity to nearly 250,000 North Dakotans. NDAREC services include legislative advocacy, lineworker safety training, professional development, cooperative business development and communication services, including publication of the North Dakota Living magazine.
